Today ruled. Total A+ day. Van took us around Cartoon Network introducing us to all of the CN animators and artists. And then hopped over to the Disney Lot to get the full tour and meet all of Van's Disney animator friends. Basically I learned that Van knows EVERYBODY. Thanks for being our fearless tour guide, Van!
More fun, friends and meetings tomorrow.

Today Team "And Sue" storyboarded our slumber party comedy about accepting the odd man out, designed all of the sets and then started shooting. We shot two scenes and called it a day. We have a full day of shooting tomorrow.
What I learned today:
junk means "cool".
jenk means "not cool".
that's so boss has made it back into teen lingo.
All in all I have a pretty wicked awesome group of girls this go around.
P.S. I love my interns! I get into the office tonight and everything I needed done ... done. It's SO nice!
P.P.S. I'm so tired.

Favorite quote: Hello, like, battlestar dramatica.
Second Favorite quote (from Big Rig): I love her. It's real. That's why I've got tears comin' out of my fuckin' head.

Anna Roberts - I don't know where I got Anna from but Robert is a family name. My brother, my dad, my grandfather and so on. I used it in a short film too. Lucy Roberts.
Olivia Reynolds - Derived from college roommate and best friend - Ama Livia Reynolds
Nisha Azhar - My good friend Nisha Patel.
Kimball Everett - I don't know how I came up with this name, but I love it.
jumping off bridges
Grove - A friend from high school named Grove. Her real name was Harriett but she hated her real name so she went by Grove. I always thought it sounded cool.
The Spider in the Bathtub - Feature Family Comedy Script
Bojo Bill Lawrence - Bojo's a friend from college. Now lives in NYC. His real name is Bojo Bill Lawrence. I asked permission to use his real name because, well, it was just too perfect.
Ninja James and the Beast Boy - Short Film
Mrs. Burchette - My evil, evil 3rd grade teacher who told me I had cow eyes.
Love Me - Teen Thriller Script
Sylvia Potter - A high school friend named Sylvia. Nothing terribly significant. Just thumbing through an old yearbook and thought, you never hear Sylvia, really.
The Edmonton Children - Horror Script
Claire James - Best friend growing up and best friend still, Clare Aronow.
I've used the name Harry ... a lot. Just noticed that. I don't know any Harry's. Weird.
So now I wait, hold my breath and see if they like the changes.
The major note I had to work on was weaving in a new twist. The thing about writing thrillers (and I've only written one so far, mind you) is that everything affects everything. So you have to read every square inch over and over and over again to make sure every dot is connected and every "t" is crossed. But man is it fun trying to manipulate ... is it him? is it her? or is it the other guy? is it two of them? is it any of them? You just have to read it ... hopefully all the way to the end to find out.

- Intern Marisol - Spring 2009 UT student of mine. She's badass. Quiet but she gets shit done!
- Intern John - Spring 2009 UT student of mine. John = Tech Whiz. Yay!
- Intern Andrew - Fall 2009 future student of mine. Totally crazy, totally witty and totally Hi-larious.
- Intern Lucas - Austin High Graduate back home for the summer. He helped on Quarter to Noon over a year ago, and he's back.

One thing that's been funny/confusing lately. It seems like outside of Austin, maybe outside Texas, or maybe just in Los Angeles, people don't think of me as a director. Just a writer. It's weird.
You know I'm a director too.
Yeah, no really. I've been directing for about 10 years now.
Huh. I did not know that.

1) The Twisted Root = Fried Pickles, Fried Green Beans, Fried Onions, Fried Sweet Potatoes
2) Almost the entire slice of Chocolate Torte Cake. And bites of Nutella Cake, Cinnabon Cake and Rum Cake.
3) The atrocity that is ... Land of the Lost
4) Playing, Rock Band 2 and thinking ... maybe being in a band in college was actually a lot of fun and maybe I should do it again at the age of 34 ... nah ... too old.
5) Witnessing The Room but falling asleep before I was able to finish it. It's real. It's really real.
6) Spending $60 on Teen Movie DVDs at the biggest Half Price Books I've ever seen. At least I can write it off as a business expense.
7) Watching Twilight again. And then listening to the commentary with Mandy. Yes, Mandy, R-Patz is hot and funny. I get it.

I finished a decent draft of Captain Dynamo this week and gave it to intern Andrew and intern Marisol for notes.
And lastly, I'm waiting for the latest outline to come back from Toddy on the teen comedy. Dude, I love our teen movie. I love it! It's silly, fun, sweet, romantic and big. We still need to come up with a title so I can stop calling it "the teen movie" because that doesn't differentiate itself much from my other scripts.

You know things are bad for the indie world when Richard flipping Linklater can't get a break. The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog reports that Linklater's much buzzed-about script called That's What I'm Talking About has been shelved. More here.

Femme Film Texas has started a fundraising page to help achieve their goal to sponsor more girls. If you can provide anything to help, you can go here.
So then last weekend in doing some casting research for a project, I picked it up and devoured the first season. Holy gamoly. I'm in love. Season One, you're awesome. Witty, hilarious, beautifully acted, sweet and sad. So I just started Season Two last night with Mark. And it's actually a TV series he doesn't cringe at when I make him watch it. And he laughs out loud with me from the couch.
Deena tells me Season 3 is the best so far, but I'm happy to be savoring each 28 minute episode for now wishing it was an hour long program. It's good shit, man.

Please can we bring it home and watch it? PLEASE??????
That's my husband every time we go to the video store and I find him holding the DVD box for Tiptoes.
No, I won't do it. I can't.
That's me in response to his begging and pleading. Some things are so bad they're funny. And some things are so bad they're boring and bad. And then bad some more. I have a feeling Tiptoes falls into the later category. Just a hunch.
It's real, people. Oh yeah, it's real.
